Medical Transportation Program

Are you or do you have a family member who is having difficulty traveling to doctor’s appointments?  Have you been unable to find reliable or affordable transportation?  If you answered “yes,” we can help.

Our Medical Transportation Program is designed to assist older Americans and people with disabilities who need help keeping their medical appointments.  We provide a door-to-door service for all clients.  Our vehicle is accessible for passengers with special needs.  Medical transportation drivers are professionally trained in First Aid & CPR.  This program is the only specialty transportation program serving residents of Wichita Falls free of charge.

Hours of operation: Service hours are Monday through Friday by appointment.  There is no service on the weekend or on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

Scheduling your trip: Trip requests are taken Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven (7) to ten (10) days in advance of the trip date.  To schedule your trip, please call 940-322-8686.  Be prepared to provide the following information:

Trip requests are not scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.  Schedules are to maximize capacity.  It may not be possible to accommodate all trip requests, and you will be informed as soon as possible if your trip cannot be scheduled.

A reservationist will give you an approximate time your driver will arrive.  The driver may arrive up to 15 minutes before or after this time and be considered “on-time” for your trip.  Please be ready to go and waiting in a place where you can hear or see the vehicle when it arrives.  This programs offers door-to-door service and a driver will escort you to and from the vehicle.  For the security of the driver and client, drivers are not allowed to go into the residences to assist passengers.

On-board policies: Please fasten your seat belt as soon as possible as drivers are not allowed to put the vehicle in motion until your seat belt is fastened.  For the comfort of other passengers, eating, drinking and smoking are not allowed on board the vehicle.  The American Red Cross of North Central Texas reserves the right to suspend or terminate service to anyone who exhibits abusive, threatening or obscene language or actions while on board the vehicle.

It is not the desire of the North Central Texas Chapter to cancel a scheduled trip.  The Chapter only cancels scheduled trips for lack of available program drivers or if the vehicle is in disrepair.  However, every effort will be taken to avoid canceling a scheduled trip.

Call us at 940-322-8686 for more information or to schedule your next trip.  The Medical Transportation Program receives partial funding from the North Texas Area United Way and contributions to the North Central Texas Chapter of the American Red Cross.
